چکیده

C6 quadriplegic patients lose the ability to use their triceps, but the arm flexors remain intact. However, they are still able to extend the elbow. A previous kinematics study showed that their pointing movements were very similar to those of healthy subjects. We make the hypothesis that the triceps is more likely to be used to ensure elbow stiffness than to provide an active elbow extensor torque. Thus, this study aims at revealing the dynamics of arm pointing movements in quadriplegic patients. We modelled the upper limb from kinematics data acquired from an electromagnetic motion capture device. Inverse dynamics was used to calculate joint torques. Sensitivity analysis was conducted to assess model reliability. We tested the influence of systematic errors in acquisition data and reconstruction errors. Analysis showed mild sensitivity of the joint torque to errors of position or orientation of the sensors and to orientation of the reconstructed segments. However, we could not reliably decompose the total moment at the elbow into the joint coordination system in order to calculate the flexor-extensor moment. Sensitivity analysis proved that inverse dynamics models could be useful in assessing unconstrained 3D upper limb movements. This study emphasises the limits of electromagnetic devices, but suggest ways to improve the recording method, which will have to be validated by further studies evaluating the degree and shape of systematic errors. Effect of Time Constraind Induced Therapy on Function, Coordination and Movements of Upper Limb on Hemiplegic Adults

Objectives: Stroke, is one of the major causes of disability in adults. So, the patient may prefer to use the non-involved limb to perfom selfcare & named this phenomen learned non used. Constraint induced therapy is one of the rehabilitative interventions that can be effective in restoration of the function of the involved limb in some hemiparetic post stroke patients. purpose of this study wa...

Direct kinematic modeling of the upper limb during trunk-assisted reaching.

The study proposes a rigid-body biomechanical model of the trunk and whole upper limb including scapula and the test of this model with a kinematic method using a six-dimensional (6-D) electromagnetic motion capture (mocap) device. Large unconstrained natural trunk-assisted reaching movements were recorded in 7 healthy subjects. The 3-D positions of anatomical landmarks were measured and then c...

Evaluation of Serum CRP and Vitamin D in Rheumatoid Arteritis Patients and Healthy People

Abstract Background and Objective: C- reactive protein (CRP), as an acute phase reactant and a reliable marker of inflammation, increases due to inflammatory diseases such as Rheumatoid Arteritis and infectious conditions. New evidence shows that Vitamin D may have important effects on adjusting and reducing the Immune Responses. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between...

Critical Upper Limb Ischemia Due to Brachial Tourniquet in Misdiagnosed Thoracic Outlet Syndrome after Carpal Tunnel Decompression: A Case Report

We present the case of a 68-year-old woman, referred to our department for critical upper limb ischemia, which had occurred a few days after homolateral surgical ligamentotomy for carpal tunnel syndrome, diagnosed and confirmed by electromyography, and performed with a brachial tourniquet. The patient was later admitted for subsequent progressive necrosis of the first three fingers of the left ...

Electromagnetic field analysis of novel low cogging force, linear switched reluctance motor, based on 2-D finite element method

This paper deals with electromagnetic design and 2-D (two-dimensional) magnetic field analysis of novel low force ripple linear switched reluctance (LSR) motor. The configuration that has been presented here has a higher number of rotor poles than stator poles, and the purpose of this configuration is to improve the force ripple, which is the weak point of LSRMs. In order to illustrate the ...
